Department of History and Heritage Management – Bule Hora University
Overview:
Established in 2005 under the College of Social Sciences and Humanities, the Department of History and Heritage Management began with a four-year BA program, initially staffed by one MA holder and guest lecturers. Starting with 45 students, the department emphasizes original research, archival analysis, and oral history, focusing on underrepresented areas in Ethiopian historiography. In 2018, Tourism Management became an independent department following a needs assessment. The department expanded in 2019/20 with MA programs in History and Heritage Management and, in 2021, Oromo Studies. It trains educators for universities, colleges, and schools while fostering research, community engagement, and employable skills.

A 4-year BA in History and Heritage Management (142 credit hours) covering Ethiopian, African, and global history, plus heritage studies. Graduates gain analytical, writing, and research skills for teaching, archival work, or further studies.

Admission Requirements:

Undergraduate: MOE Grade 12 pass mark in social science stream.

Graduate: BA/BEd in History, Heritage Management, or related fields (per Bule Hora University Senate legislation).
