Department of Oromo Folklore and Literature Profile

Overview
The Department of Oromo Folklore and Literature at Bule Hora University was established in September 2019 (2011 E.C.) to document and preserve the rich cultural heritage of the Oromo people, particularly the Guji Oromo. With a focus on indigenous knowledge, oral traditions, and literary studies, the department has graduated three batches of students and collaborates with related disciplines to advance research through the Institute of Culture and Gadaa Studies. Currently, seven academic staff members, including a technical assistant, work to collect, analyze, and promote Oromo folklore, ensuring its preservation for future generations while fostering cultural identity and academic excellence.
Vision
By 2025, the department aspires to be a leading center for Oromo cultural heritage, producing graduates who drive socio-economic and agricultural advancements through folklore and literature, while promoting community engagement and innovative research.
Mission
To cultivate scholars skilled in preserving and innovating Oromo cultural narratives through multidisciplinary research, ethical practice, and community service, fostering patriotism and entrepreneurship.
