Introduction
Bule Hora University was established in 2004 E.C as one of the Higher Education Institution Universities in Ethiopia. The University plays its role in giving quality education and training for all, and   a research based community service and etc. Following the establishment of the University, Under the College of Social Sciences and Humanities Department Civics and Ethical Studies has started running undergraduate program since 2006 E.C. The Department has started BA in Civics and Ethical Studies major with 28 students in 2006 E C in regular. Currently, the department running teaching with regular (27)(weekend(29) and summer(171) in BA program .In addition to major courses, the department offered common course “Civics and Ethical Education with three credit hours” for all students admitted at BHU. Furthermore, in the year 2013 it launches postgraduate program MA in Peace and security Studies with ten (10) and twenty three (23) students both in regular and weekend basis respectively.
The department is dedicated to excellence in teaching, scholarship, competent human power, well-disciplined educators and service. The department upholds the following mission, vision and motto:

The vision of the Department of Civics and Ethical Studies is to become a center of excellence in creating reasonable, competent and ethical citizens in all aspects.

To accomplish the mission and vision of the department, college as well as the University, the following strategic plan will be implemented in the department.
It has been initiated to expand BA students’ intake capacity in both regular and extension programs. Also, the department tries to expand post graduate programs MA in various areas of specializations. Moreover, the department has planned to employee human resource and upgrades its instructors’ capacity by sending both in and abroad for further studies..
Objectives of the Department
The department has responsibilities:
  • To train competent Professionals local, national, regional and global purposes;
  • To train middle and high level leaders;
  • To extend the programs so as to address the need of professionals in various fields in the department;
  • To participate in different local and international researches try to have publication on reputable journals ;
  • To fulfill /prepare plan for resource so as to run teaching-learning process etc.
