Overview:
Established in 2014 under the College of Social Sciences and Humanities, the Department of Afaan Oromoo and Literature offers BA programs in Afaan Oromoo and Literature (since 2014) and Oromo Folklore and Literature (since 2018). It expanded to include MA in Teaching Afaan Oromoo and Literature (2019) and a PhD in Oromo Literature and Folklore (2020). The department collaborates with Addis Ababa and Jimma Universities for joint staffing and focuses on producing experts in language, literature, folklore, and sociocultural studies. It emphasizes multilingualism, cross-cultural communication, and research to standardize and promote Afaan Oromoo.
