College of Social Sciences and Humanities, Bule Hora University College Overview
The College of Social Sciences and Humanities (CSSH) is one of the Colleges in Bule Hora University. The college offers diverse programs to develop a deep understanding of human societies, cultures, and behaviors. Currently, the college houses 16 departments. These departments are Afaan Oromo and Literature, Civics and Ethical Studies, English Language and Literature, Geography and Environmental Studies, Governance and Development Studies, History and Heritage Management, Journalism and Communication, Oromo Folklore and Literature, Philosophy, Political Science and International Relations, Social Anthropology, Sociology, Social Work, Tourism Management, Music and Theatrical Arts. In the College of Social Sciences and Humanities, there are 16 MA programs both in regular and weekend modalities. The college also hosts two PhD programs in the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies and Afaan Oromo and Literature. The College also has a Postgraduate and Continuing Education Coordinator, Registrar Coordinator, Education Quality Assurance Coordinator, and Research, Community Service and Technology Transfer Coordinator Office structures in addition to departments.
As of 2025/2017, the College hosted 517 regular Undergraduate Students, 383 Summer UG students, 1502 Weekend UG students, 192 postgraduate (MA) students, and 23 PhD students across its programs. The College operates under multiple modalities, including regular, weekend, and summer programs has been teaching a total of 2617 students.
The College is supported by a dedicated academic staff comprising 139 lecturers, 11 staffs holding PhD, 12 staff members holding BA, and 5 lab assistants. The teaching staff is actively involved in both teaching and research, contributing to the academic growth.
